Wheel RPO codes are RPO codes used to identify factory wheel equipment, wheel trim, wheel locks, and related wheel-color information on the Pontiac Fiero.

Overview

Wheel RPO codes help identify the wheels, wheel covers, trim rings, wheel locks, or related wheel equipment originally assigned to a Fiero.

These codes may appear on the Service parts identification label along with paint, trim, engine, transmission, tire, audio, and other factory build codes.

The RPO code identifies original factory equipment. It does not necessarily prove which wheels are currently installed, because wheels are often replaced, refinished, swapped, painted, or upgraded.

Some wheel-related codes identify accessories or equipment rather than the wheel itself.

Wheel and tire codes are related, but they are not the same thing.

A wheel code identifies the factory wheel, wheel cover, trim ring, or wheel-related equipment. A tire code identifies the original tire size, type, or tire package assigned to the car.

Wheel code versus current wheels

The wheel RPO code identifies the wheels or wheel-related equipment originally assigned to the car.

It does not prove that the current wheels are original.

Many Fieros have had wheels changed because of:

  • Tire availability
  • Appearance upgrades
  • Brake upgrades
  • Suspension changes
  • Damage
  • Refinishing
  • Wheel swaps from other Fieros
  • Aftermarket wheels
  • Kit-car or rebody conversions

When documenting a car or ordering wheel-related parts, compare the Service Parts Identification label with the wheels actually installed.

Model-year differences

Wheel availability changed during Fiero production.

Some wheels were associated with specific years, trims, packages, or body styles. Some wheel codes may refer to similar styles but different sizes, finishes, or applications.

When identifying factory wheels, verify:

  • Model year
  • Trim level
  • Wheel code
  • Wheel size
  • Wheel width
  • Wheel offset, where needed
  • Front and rear wheel differences, where applicable
  • Wheel finish or color
  • Tire code
  • Brake and suspension configuration

Staggered wheel applications

Some Fiero wheel and tire applications use different front and rear sizes.

For example, diamond/honeycomb-style 15-inch wheels may be listed as 15 x 6 front and 15 x 7 rear in some references.

When ordering wheels, tires, center caps, lug nuts, or wheel locks, verify whether the car uses the same wheel size at all four corners or a front/rear staggered setup.

Common mistakes

Common mistakes when using wheel RPO codes include:

  • Assuming the current wheels are original
  • Confusing wheel codes with tire codes
  • Confusing wheel color codes with body paint codes
  • Confusing similar-looking codes such as P02 and PO2
  • Assuming all 15-inch Fiero wheels are the same
  • Ignoring front/rear wheel-size differences
  • Ordering parts based only on model year
  • Assuming an aftermarket or swapped wheel matches the RPO label

Service notes

When using wheel RPO codes:

  • Photograph the Service Parts Identification label before it fades further.
  • Record the wheel code exactly.
  • Watch for zero versus letter O in codes such as P02 and P06.
  • Verify model-year applicability.
  • Inspect the actual wheels on the car.
  • Check wheel size and width physically if parts compatibility matters.
  • Verify tire size separately from wheel code.
  • Be cautious with cars that have brake upgrades, suspension changes, or aftermarket wheels.

Wheel RPO codes are factory build references. They help identify how a Fiero was originally equipped, but they do not necessarily describe the wheels currently installed.

Because Fiero wheels are easy to swap, physical inspection is important when ordering parts or documenting originality.
