Cooling system is an overview of the cooling system used in the Pontiac Fiero.

Because the Fiero has a mid-mounted engine and a front-mounted radiator, the cooling system uses long coolant pipes running underneath the car. Proper filling, bleeding, and inspection are important.

Overview

The Fiero cooling system includes the radiator, coolant pipes, hoses, thermostat housing, thermostat, water pump, radiator fan, fan switch or fan control circuit, coolant reservoir, and pressure caps.

Air trapped in the cooling system can cause overheating, unstable temperature readings, poor coolant circulation, or coolant overflow.

Major components

Common cooling system topics

Coolant filling

The Fiero cooling system should be filled carefully because of the long distance between the engine and the radiator.

Model-year differences

Cooling system details may differ by model year, engine, and transmission.

Diagnosis

Cooling system diagnosis should include inspection of coolant level, trapped air, coolant pipe condition, radiator condition, fan operation, thermostat operation, water pump condition, caps, hoses, and possible leaks.
