Code 53 is a diagnostic trouble code related to system voltage on the Pontiac Fiero.

Code 53 indicates that the ECM has detected a system over-voltage condition.

Overview

The ECM monitors vehicle electrical system voltage. If voltage becomes too high, the ECM may set Code 53.

A system over-voltage condition can be caused by a charging-system problem, alternator problem, voltage regulator problem, wiring problem, poor battery connection, or ECM input problem.

Code 53 is displayed as:

  • Five flashes
  • Pause
  • Three flashes
