Temperature gauge refers to the dashboard engine-temperature gauge used in the Pontiac Fiero Instrument cluster.

The temperature gauge displays engine coolant temperature to the driver. It should not be confused with the Coolant temperature sensor used by the ECM.

Overview

The Fiero uses separate temperature-related parts for different purposes.

The dashboard temperature gauge receives its signal from the temperature gauge sender.

The ECM receives coolant temperature information from the ECM coolant temperature sensor.

The radiator fan may be controlled by a separate fan switch or fan-control circuit, depending on year and configuration.

Because these parts are separate, a problem with one does not automatically mean the others are faulty.

The temperature gauge sender is mounted on the engine. Its exact location depends on the engine and year.

On the 2.8L V6, the gauge sender is located separately from the ECM coolant temperature sensor.

On the 2.5L four-cylinder, the sender location may vary by year and engine configuration.

Gauge sender versus ECM sensor

The temperature gauge sender and ECM coolant temperature sensor are separate parts.

The gauge sender is used by:
